Recent review of our home. September, 2016
We just rented this home for labor day weekend from 9/3/16 - 9/5/16. We had 2 families ( 2 adults and 2 teenagers each family) for a total of 8 people. The home was perfect for 8 people. The lower level had a bedroom with 2 single beds, a nice billiard table, and a Foosball table. The kids spent most of their time there. The wi-fi was fast - easily accomodating 4 laptops on-line at the same time. The first floor had a bedroom with a queen sized bed , a bathroom with a bathtub, a fully stocked kitchen and dining area that was perfect for 8 people. It opened to the deck with a nice propane grill that has a New York Yankee emblem on it (I am a native New Yorker and was surprised to see that in Pennsylvania) . We saw many deer right below us observing us as we were barbecuing . The loft had a large bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a bunk bed - perfect for the other family of 4. The loft also had a large bathroom with a shower stall and I believe a sofa bed with a playstation 2.
The home was 1 block away from the clubhouse with a game room, beach area with lifeguard, swimming pool, volleyball court, boat rental area which had different types of boats including approximately 10 paddle boats (easily available), a restaurant with a large deck for outside dining and a band . Everyone was having a good time.
Approximately 4 blocks away were 3 nice tennis courts - 1 basketball court and a marina for fishing off a small dock. I went fishing the last morning off this dock and caught small crappies but a private boater caught a large mouth bass in front of me within 15 minutes of putting his boat on the lake. He caught it with a small rubber worm but said lures will work also - he said there were small and large-mouth bass, crappies, catfish, trout and I believe perch and pickerel. Unfortunately., we were leaving that morning - otherwise I would have rented a paddle boat and fished in deeper waters. He told me where to fish so I will be back next year. Even though it is a private lake, you do need a Pennsylvania fishing license if you are 16 and older- it cost $25 for 3 days and there is a bait store at the entrance to Lake Towamensing called Eastern Arms and Outfitters which sells the license.
The town of Jim Thorpe was approximately 20 minutes away- we went to the Asa Packer Mansion, old jailhouse which had interesting stories, and rented bikes to take a 15 mile ride along the Lehigh river which was rough as it took 2-3 hours with a lunch break.. Of course the wives wanted to go to Tannersville Crossing outlets on the way back to New York.
The home was spotless and in a great location. The owners were great - easily reached via telephone as well as by email. When I thought I had locked myself out of the house, I called Jake who did not hesitate and offered to come right over to open the door but then I realized that the one key opened both locks on the front door. He also immediately called me back when I asked him if the trash site was open on Labor Day Monday when we were leaving (it was ). Sorry this review was so long but you can see there is alot to do - I have no doubt that I will be back next summer . I am also considering staying here for the winter if there is enough snow in the neighboring ski slopes.
Many thanks to Jake and Sue
